Eliminate Private College and University Aid (aka, Bundy Aid)
The "Bundy" Aid program provides general operating subsidies to private colleges and universities in the state. The funding under the program is tilted toward wealthy colleges that often have large endowments and real estate holdings.
In a time when tuition increases and program cuts are being proposed for New York's public colleges and universities, it is not justifiable to continue this poorly targeted program. The state Tuition Assistance Program (TAP), a program that provides aid to low-income students attending public and private colleges, does a better job of targeting aid where the need is greatest.
Suspending Bundy Aid would save $4 million annually.
