Closing Certain Juvenile Detention Centers
Governor Paterson has proposed closing six juvenile detention centers and downsizing two others that are extremely underutilized. Unfortunately, the legislature has not acted.
The facilities recommended for closure have an average vacancy rate of 63%, and two of the centers have no clients. Enacting this proposal would save $17 million annually.
